Volunteer Facilitator Job Description
Post: | Volunteer – (Facilitator) |
Purpose of the role: | The primary purpose of this post is to provide ongoing facilitated weekly group meeting for clients who hold an individualised care plans and who have completed Residential Treatment programmes. |
Location: | You will facilitate groups to clients throughout the Community. |
Commencement: | This is for a period of 12 months. Your commencement date is: TBA |
Reporting Line: | The Volunteer (Facilitator) will report directly to the Continuing Care Co-ordinator. |
Hours: | 1.5 hours per session – Nr of sessions to be agreed with the Continuing Care Co-ordinator |
1. Duties and Responsibilities of the Volunteer (Facilitator) include but are not limited to the following:
The following sets out the principal duties and responsibilities for the post, however, Volunteer (Facilitator) are expected to be flexible in the role and to deal with and liaise with the Continuing Care Co-Ordinator as appropriate on all issues they deal with:

- As a member of the Volunteer (Facilitator) team, to participate as appropriate in the co-ordination of meetings so as to ensure the best holistic client care
- Maintain a facilitator role with the clients throughout the meetings
- Be visible at the meeting
- Report any concerns to the Continuing Care Co-ordinator
- Provide assistance in the case of an emergency.
- Monitor the attendance of clients and conduct regular checks-ins
- Be available to clients, show basic care for their wellbeing and provide assistance as required.
- Ensure that the rooms used for the meetings are left in a tidy fashion
- Fully participate in all review and audit programmes undertaken by management to ensure ongoing evaluation of the appropriateness and effectiveness of service delivery.
- Comply with all regulatory and legal requirements.
- Comply with the implementation of objectives and standards which guide the volunteers of the Company in the delivery of innovative and high-quality care and rehabilitation of individuals.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Continuing Care Co-ordinator.
2. Skills & Competencies
- Good interpersonal and group communication/facilitation skills are required
- Min of 2 years in recovery (desirable)
- Has attended personal development course with SHEP (The Social & Education Project) or another provider (desirable)
- Past Facilitation Experience, and or Group Work Experience, or willing to attend training in this area
- Good telephone skills and manner are required for dealing with any client or other queries in relation to the operation of the Continuing Care Programme
- Time management skills both on a personal and work level are required
- The ability to work constructively and actively as part of a flexible team to respond appropriately to the needs presented by clients.
